Steve Norwood (SoloSteve) – Singer-Songwriter

Rooted in the styles of folk, rock, bluegrass, and country, singer-songwriter Steve Norwood, also known as SoloSteve, has been a driving force in Alaska’s music scene for decades.

Since arriving in Alaska in  1994, Steve balanced his passion for mountaineering and skiing with his deep love for music, eventually forming The Photonz in 1997 alongside Pete Townsend, Romero Begay, Benjamin Robinson, and Tony Restivo. The band quickly became Alaska’s favorite, performing until 2003, and later reuniting for annual shows at The Sitzmark in Girdwood from 2004 through 2019.

The Photonz toured extensively, including two Hawaiian tours, where they shared the stage with Bill Kreutzmann’s House of Spirits, as well as two major tours across the Lower 48, performing in states such as Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Over the years, The Photonz supported legendary acts like Sam Bush, FloMotion, Leftover Salmon, Blues Traveler, and Bill Kreutzmann’s band House of Spirits.

Steve launched his solo career in 2015, releasing several albums, including "King of the Mountain" (2015), "Thin Ice" (2018), and his hit single "Rainy River”. His band’s acclaimed album “Cosmic Party" (originally released in 1999) was remastered and re-released in 2024 on all streaming platforms. His latest project, "Wild Hearts," is set for release in summer 2026.

Performing under the moniker SoloSteve since 2023, he has embraced looping techniques for the past three years, adding new depth to his performances. As a solo artist, he has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Peter Rowan, Jeff Austin, Young Dubliners, Danny Godinez, Michael Kirkpatrick, Arthur Lee Land, Pete Kartsounes, and Melissa Mitchell of Hope Social Club.

In addition to his solo career, Steve has played guitar for various projects and continues to captivate audiences with his unique blend of original songs and covers, featuring music from The Photonz, Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, The Beatles…and more.

With a lifetime dedicated to music, Steve Norwood remains a powerful presence in the folk and rock world, bringing heartfelt lyrics, rich instrumentation, and an unforgettable live experience to audiences everywhere.
